New York, NY - The Hunter softball team swept Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 12-0 on senior day. The wins move the Hawks to an overall mark of 12-13 while their CUNYAC record bumps up to 10-1. Honored prior to the game were seniors
Erika Colangelo,
Sara Beck,
Nicole Fillisetti and Kristine Kline. The four will cap their Hunter playing career at the conclusion of this season.
Game 1 Recap
Four Hawks registered multiple-hit games with Beck and Fillisetti each going three for three with two RBI's while teammates Kline and
Emily Ruiz tallied two hits each. As a team, the Purple and Gold rung up Brooklyn pitcher Uena Xharo for 14 hits. Beck also impressed in the circle, pitching the full five innings, and giving up just a single hit on the day while striking out 10 en route to earning her sixth win of the season.
Runs in the bottom of the first and second gave Hunter a 2-0 starting point heading into the third inning. After stopping Brooklyn, they rang up three runs on four hits. With two outs and
Victoria Slavik on first,
Alana Vezza singled to put runners on first and third. After stealing second, she advanced to third on a the same wild pitch that Slavik scored on. Beck and Filisetti smacked back-to-back doubles which gave the Hawks a 5-0 lead.
In the same sequence, Beck and Filissetti led off the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back doubles to make it a six-run lead. Fillisetti moved to third on a Kline single and then both were driven in by Ruiz to put the nail in the coffin, ending the game with an 8-0 win.
Game 2 Recap
The Hawks tallied 12 runs on 11 hits in game two with hit contributions coming from seven different players and RBI's being credited to seven different players as well.
Erika Colangelo earned the win after throwing five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out nine in the shutout.
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after scoring two in the first and one in both the second and third. The dagger came in the bottom of the fourth when Hunter put eight on the scoreboard. Colangelo lead off the inning with a double which was followed up by an
Amanda Fursa walk to put runners on first and second. Kline smacked an RBI single to left field and then Slavik roped an RBI double to center.
Stefanie Abolt and Monaco followed with consecutive singles while Filisetti doubled as the Hawks batted arounnd the order to bring up Colangelo once again. She hit an RBI single and then scored after Fursa doubled for the eighth run in the inning and the final run of the game.
Hunter returns to action Tuesday, April 26 when they travel to Old Westbury , NYto take on SUNY Old Westbury. First pitch of the double header begins at 3pm.
