New York, NY - In Hunter College men's soccer's first home game of the season, the Hawks defeated New York University with a score of 2-1 at Randall's Island on Saturday.
With the win the Hawks improve to 1-2-1 this season and get their first victory over NYU in 14 years.
The game started with an early goal from Hunter's
Aiden Tucker as the sophomore stole the ball and was able to score off a fast break just six minutes into the game. For the rest of the half the Purple and Gold attempted to keep the Violets from tying the game as NYU recorded just two shots in the first half.
The Hawks went into halftime with the 1-0 lead after posting three shots in the first.
The Violets began the second half with a close header toward the goal, but the Hawks' goalkeeper Paul Tenfoung managed to save it to keep Hunter's lead. With ten minutes remaining in the game
Jacob Gorodetsky found
Brandon Fiscina in the middle of the field, who then ripped a shot into the goal to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
The Purple and Gold committed a foul in the box just three minutes later, allowing a penalty kick for NYU, who converted to make the score 2-1. The Violets attempted one more shot in the remaining seven minutes but would be stopped by the Hunter defense to give the Hawks the 2-1 win.
Tucker, Fiscina, Aristofanis Iaonnidis,
