New York, NY – Hunter College men's soccer fell in its season opener at Penn State Abington on Friday with a final score of 3-0.
Despite a quick shot from Hunter's
Aiden Tucker in the first five minutes of the game, the Nittany Lions were the first team to get on the board, notching a header just seven minutes into regulation.
Several fouls plagued the Hawks in the opening minutes as the team recorded four in just ten minutes of play. Penn State Abington was able to get an early comfortable lead by scoring a second goal at the 22:21 minute mark off a rebound in the box.
The Purple and Gold did not back down from the Nittany Lions as five different players managed to record shots on goal in the first half, but could not convert, trailing at halftime, 2-0.
The Hawks started the second half strong with an immediate shot on goal from
Brandon Fiscina, while preventing the Nittany Lions from widening their lead for over 20 minutes.
At the 67:54 minute mark Penn State Abington would solidify its lead, netting another goal off a give and go down the middle of the field.
The Hawks recorded seven more shots in the remaining minutes of the game but would not come up on the winning side as the team fell with a score of 3-0.
Tucker led the team with four shots on goal, while
Itamar Pereira and
Bryan Suertegaray followed with two each.
Mostafa Mosbah,
Carlos Aspiazu, Arristofanis Ioannidis, Fiscina,
Brian Cespedes,
Chris Morales and
Daniel Kisel each recorded one shot for a total of 20 team goals to the Lions' ten.
Hunter goalkeeper Paul Tenfoung totaled one save for the Hawks in his debut in the net.
The Hawks return to action tomorrow when they travel to Cairn University at 12 p.m.
