Men's Soccer Ties Cairn, 1-1

Tucker Nets a Goal for Hunter

BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College men's soccer got a tie against Cairn University on Saturday, recording a final score of 1-1 in Langhorne, PA.

The Hawks are now 1-1 this season after falling in their season opener to Penn State Abington.

The Highlanders started strong by recording four shots in the first four minutes of the game, but the Hawks' defense managed to block two while Hunter goalkeeper Paul Tenfoung tallied one save.

Ten minutes into the half the Hawks took their first shots as Aiden Tucker was blocked and Aristofanis Ioannidis shot wide of the goal. Several fouls were called on the Highlanders but the team still took control of the game by scoring at the 25:38 minute mark off a long shot.

The Purple and Gold took six more shots in the first half but went into halftime trailing the Highlanders, 1-0.

The second half began with a high shot from Hunter's Itamar Pererira as Cairn immediately matched that with a wide shot of their own. Bryan Suertegaray would notch two-straight shots in the first ten minutes of the half but the Hawks struggled to convert as Cairn continued to lead 1-0 well into the game.

It would not be until the 70:32 minute mark that the Hawks tied the game as Carlos Aspiazu found Tucker alone on the left side of the field and Tucker ripped the ball over the goalie's head for the goal.

Neither team would find another goal in regulation, despite an attempt by Cairn in the last two minutes of the game that Hunter's Tenfoung saved.

The Hawks recorded one shot in overtime and Tenfoung recorded another save, sending the game into the second overtime.

Hunter's four shot attempts in the second overtime did not come up succesful, while Tenfoung saved Cairn's only shot attempt, solidifying the 1-1 tie for the game.

The Purple and Gold recorded 26 shots to Cairn's 16, while Tenfoung earned six saves in the tie.

The Hawks will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Montclair State.
