BOX SCORE New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball dropped a CUNYAC game on Saturday with a loss to Baruch College, 71-66.
The Purple and Gold are now 4-4 in conference play and 8-8 overall.
The Bearcats led for most of the first two quarters but Hunter stayed within reach until Baruch managed to get a 35-23 edge with three minutes left in the half. From there the Hawks went a run, featuring two three-pointers from
Jade Aponte, to trail by just six at halftime.
Hunter shot 34.4 percent from the floor in the first two quarters as Baruch recorded a 40.6 field goal percentage. Aponte led the team with 15 points, shooting 4-5 from behind the arc.
The Purple and Gold chipped away at the score for most of the third quarter, finally tying the game at the 2:30 minute mark off a layup from
Edina Music.
Theresa Leung ended the quarter with three quick points to give Hunter a one-point lead to go into the fourth.
Aponte opened up the fourth quarter with an immediate three-pointer to give the Hawks momentum as the score remained close. With Hunter leading by one with one minute to play, Baruch hit a huge shot from behind the three-point line to take control. They closed it out with four free throws in the last ten seconds as the Hawks fell, 71-66.
Aponte led the team with 19 points, followed by
Selina Lims 13 and Leung's 11 points. Leung added a game-high nine assists in the loss. The team shot 37.9 percent from the floor, while out-rebounding the Bearcats 47-43.
Hunter returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18 when they host Brooklyn College at 5 p.m.
