Men's Basketball Holds Off Bulldogs in Conference Victory

Men's Hoops Wins 65-55

New York, NY - Four players scored in double-figures to help Hunter College men's basketball defeat Brooklyn College on Wednesday night with a score of 65-55.

The Hawks end a three-game losing streak with the victory, improving to 7-10 overall and 5-4 in CUNYAC play.

Both teams struggled to make baskets in the first half as Hunter finished the first 20 minutes with a 25 percent field goal percentage to trail 25-23 at the break.

The score remained close in the second half as the teams took turns making shots. Two free throws from Amer Lukac tied it up four minutes into play, but the Bulldogs responded with a three-pointer to go back up.

From there Hunter's Mamadou Sakho went to work, hitting three-straight shots from behind the arc over a two minute span to give the Purple and Gold a five-point lead.

Brooklyn managed to tie it up 42-42 with ten minutes left to play until the Hawks went on a 12-3 run, featuring six points from Gio Gabbidon, to pull ahead 54-45 at the 5:11 minute mark.

One last layup from Gabbidon gave the Hawks some breathing room as they finished up the game by converting on free throws to get the win,  65-55.

Sakho led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 5-7 from behind the three-point line. Gabbidon followed with another hot shooting hand, scoring 13 points off a 6-8 field goal performance. He added seven rebounds and three assists.

Lukac recorded his second double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Matt Franks rounded it out with ten points and eight boards in the victory.

The Hawks finished the game with a better field goal percentage (35.8) than Brooklyn, outrebounding them 46-43 and forcing 19 turnovers.

The team returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20 when they host John Jay College at 7 p.m.
