Jade Aponte scored a career-high 28 points on Friday night to lead the Hunter College women's basketball team to a win over York College with a score of 70-32.
The Hawks improve to 8-5 overall this season and 4-1 in the conference.
Aponte hit five of six shots from behind the arc in the first half of the game, scoring 17 points as Hunter led 33-14 at halftime. The Purple and Gold shot 40 percent from the floor in the first two quarters, while holding the Cardinals to a 24.0 field goal percentage.
The third quarter featured the same competition as Hunter outscored York 19-11 to go up by 27 points by the start of the fourth. The fourth quarter started with 14-straight points from the Hawks as
Ashley Arias,
Binta Sumbundu,
Danielle DeGuia and
Phoebe Valenton all contributed to the run.Â
The Hawks closed out the game with two free throws from Sumbundu to seal the solid 70-32 victory.
Aponte finished with 28 points to lead the team, while Arias recorded a team-high 10 rebounds. Valenton led the defensive effort, tallying five steals as Hunter forced 29 York turnovers in the game.
The team returns to action on Monday, Jan. 9 when they travel to Lehman College for a 5 p.m. game.
