New Rochelle, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball tallied a non-conference win over the College of New Rochelle on Wednesday evening, defeating the Blue Angels in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23.
The Hawks improved to 14-3 with the win and continue to be undefeated in CUNYAC play.
Hunter pulled ahead to a commanding 16-7 lead off an 8-0 run early in the first set, featuring seven-straight serves from
Taylor Haiduk. Kills from Haiduk,
Julia Connolly and
Emily Wasson all contributed to another run as the Hawks scored six-straight points to take the first, 25-17.
The Purple and Gold earned another early lead in the second set, but the Blue Angels continuously tied up the score until a Connolly kill gave Hunter a definitive 18-12 lead.
Two-straight kills from Wasson and a point from
Karina Young helped the Hawks seal the second set victory with a score of 25-15.
New Rochelle would take the early advantage in the third, as the Hawks managed to tie the score several times before falling behind. With the score tied at nine, Haiduk and Wasson led the Hunter offense to an 8-1 run to make the score 17-11. The Blue Angels caught back up to trail by just two, but the Hawks managed to take advatage of New Rochelle errors, winning the third 25-23 to get the match victory.
Connolly led the way with 11 kills and a team second-best 10 digs, while Haiduk and Wasson added nine kills each.
Sunghee Cho led the defense with 19 digs, while
Kendra Moore chipped in five blocks.
Miranda Hogan kept control of the offense with 29 assists.
The team returns to action on Friday, October 6 when they host New York University at 6 p.m. at the Sportsplex.
