New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's soccer got a victory on Saturday, overtaking York College in a 3-1 rout of the Cardinals at Randall's Island.
This is the Hawk's third conference win of the season to improve to 3-4 in the City University of New York Athletic Conference.
Hunter's
Michael Merlo scored the first goal of the afternoon just 25 minutes into the game, kicking a dropped ball by the goalkeeper into the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 advantage.Â
The Cardinals had four shot attempts in the remaining minutes of the half but Hunter goalkeeper Paul Yovoh Alain Tenfoung recorded two saves to help the Hawks keep the lead at halftime.
Mikey Tzanetatos opened up the second half with a shot that was wide, but then converted nine minutes later by tallying a goal and making the score 2-0.
Things looked positive for the Purple and Gold until York finally got on the board, registering a goal to trail by just one with 25 minutes to play.
The Hawks responded just ten minutes later as
Harrison Krepack got the ball from
Aristofanis Ioannidis and sank the ball into the back of the net to solidify the Hunter win, 3-1.
Tzanetatos led the team with four shots in the victory, while Tenfoung recorded seven saves. The Purple and Gold outshot York, 15-13.
The team returns to the field on Monday, October 9 when they host Kean University at 5 p.m.
