New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball opened up the 2017-18 season with a victory over Bay Path University on Friday night, getting the 66-34 win in the opening round of the Hunter Tip Off Tournament.
Maya Thompson and Jade Aponte combined for 29 points as the Hawks shot 41.1 percent from the floor, holding the Wildcats to 27.7 field goal percentage.
The Purple and Gold dominated the opening minutes of the game, taking a 12-0 lead thanks to six points from Ashley Arias. Hunter went into halftime with a 29 point lead after forcing 16 turnovers and allowing just four field goals.
The Hawks started the second half with a 10-2 run before the Wildcats would convert off a jumper. Hunter's Janine Conway responded with four-straight points, helding the team to a 58-21 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Thompson led the team with 15 points in her Hunter debut, going 6-11 from the floor and adding nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Aponted added 14 points, while Arias posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.Â
The team returns to action tomorrow in the championship game vs. Olivet College, starting at 1 p.m.
