Leung's 27 Points Leads Hawks Past USMMA

Hunter Wins 61-41

Kings Point, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball got a win over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday night, taking the game with a score of 61-41.

Led by Theresa Leung's 11 field goals, the Hawks improved to 3-0 this season, while the Mariners started the year 0-1.

The Purple and Gold got the early lead, ending the first quarter with a three-point advantage. They opened up the second quarter with a three-pointer from Leung and then went on an 11-4 run to lead at halftime, 35-21.

Hunter remained solid at the beginning of the third as Maya Thompson, Leung, Christine Patterson and Janine Conway each converted on shots to extend their lead to as much as 23 points. The Mariners finished off the quarter with a run of their own, but the Hawks were able to maintain their dominance into the fourth.

The Hawks finished off the game with points from Leung and Jade Aponte to win, 61-41.

Leung led the team with 27 points, recording 11 field goals and shooting five for six from behind the arc for a career-high. She was followed by Ashley Arias who finished one rebound short of a double-double with 13 points and nine boards. 

Hunter held USMMA to a 28.1 field goal percentage while forcing 21 turnovers.

The team returns to the court on Nov. 25 when they travel to The College of New Jersey.
