New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball fell to non-conference opponent New York University on Tuesday night with a score of 75-64.
The Hawks dropped to 4-5 overall this season, while the Violets improved to 6-2.
The Violets took charge early in the first half, pulling ahead at the 15:22 minute mark and never looking back to go into half with a 40-26 advantage. Franks led the Hawks in the first 20 minutes, posting seven points and shooting 3-4 from the floor.
NYU started the second with a three-point play, but the Purple and Gold responded with two points from
James Blair and back-to-back three pointers from
Danny Fusco and
Blendi Ibraj. Hunter's
Matt Franks and
Matt Stroud then took over to combine for eight points and help Hunter cut NYU's lead to just ten points with 5:34 on the clock.
The Hawks would get no closer as the Violets closed out the last few minutes and took the game, 75-64.
George Keener led the team with 16 points, while Franks followed with 13. Ibraj added 11 points, shooting three-for-three from behind the arc, while Fusco notched 10 points.
The squad returns to action on December 30 when they host Maine Maritime Academy.
