Men's Hoops Improves to 5-5 With Win Over Maine Maritime

Fusco Scores 20 In The First Half

New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball defeated Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon in dominating fashion, taking down the Mariners with a score of 97-55.

The Hawks improved to 5-5 overall this year and remain 3-0 in CUNYAC play. The Mariners dropped to 0-9 in the loss.

Five players scored in double-figures for the Hawks as the team shot their highest field goal percentage of the season with a mark of 57.1 percent.

Maine Maritime led just once in the game, going up in the first two minutes before the Hawks went on an 11-0 run to make the score 13-5 with 15 minutes left in the first half. Danny Fusco went to work for the Purple and Gold with five minutes on the clock by scoring 11 of Hunter's 13 points over a two minute span to put them up 46-22.

Mamadou Sakho and Matt Franks finished off the half with a combined 11 points in the remaning minutes to give Hunter a 57-27 advantage at the half. 

Matt Stroud opened up the second half with basket from behind the arc and George Keener followed that up with two points of his own as the Hawks continued to dominate. With ten minutes to play Abraham Rosow came into the game to score eight-straight points for the Hawks. Hunter finished it off with a 14-2 run in the last four minutes to take the game, 97-55.

Fusco led all scorers with 20 points, recording eight field goals, while adding four assists and three steals. He was followed by Stroud and Blendi Ibraj, who each chipped in 11 points. Stroud went 4-5 from the floor, while Ibraj shot 3-4 from behind the three-point line in the victory.

Matt Franks and Rosow added ten points each as Amer Lukac pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

The Hawks return to action on January 3 when they travel to CCNY for a 7 p.m. game.
