New York, NY - Hunter College women's basketball fell in its last regular season game on Monday night to Lehman College, 78-63.
The Hawks end the regular season with a 12-13 overall record and 8-8 in CUNYAC play. They are fifth in the conference standings.Â
Hunter was plagued by poor shooting in the first half as Lehman hit a 51.7 field goal percentage in the first two quarters to lead 43-27. The Lightning were also 10-10 from the foul line, while the Hawks shot just four free throw attempts.
Hunter fell behind in the third quarter by as much as 20 points at the 4:55 minute mark, but
Jade Aponte silenced the Lightning with a three-pointer one minute later.
Christine Patterson and
Ashley Arias followed that up with points of their own as the Hawks managed to trail by 14 going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter Lehman charged to another commanding lead, going up by 20 with seven minutes to play. The Purple and Gold responded with a run, featuring points from Arias, Aponte, Patterson and
Widly Couloute to make the score 70-59, but Lehman still pulled out the victory with a final score of 78-63.
Aponte led the squad with 13 points, while Arias followed with 11 and
Selina Lim added ten in the loss. Couloute added a team-high 12 rebounds as the Hawks forced 23 Lightning turnovers in the game.
