Softball Drops Twinbill to CSI

The Hawks ended a six game CUNYAC win streak with the two losses.

Staten Island, NY – The softball team dropped their first two conference contests this year with a double header loss to the College of Staten Island by scores of 10-0 and 5-2. Hunter now stands at 7-9 overall and move to 6-2 in CUNYAC play.

Game 1
The Hawks managed just two hits in the game with each of them coming off the bat of Victoria Slavik; a double in the top of the second to lead off the inning and then a single in the top of the fourth. Despite the two-hitter thrown by CSI's Jacqueline Cautela, the Hawks put the ball in play for the majority of the game, striking out just three times. Freshman Caroline Bibula suffered the loss as she tossed a complete game and moves to a 2-2 overall record.

CSI Capitalized on an early error in the first to put one run on the board and then tacked on another seven in the second inning on seven hits and two errors. They managed to add another two in the fourth to make it a 10-0 affair in favor of the Dolphins as the first game of the twinbill came to an end.
Game 2
Despite a better performance in the second game, the Hawks played down from the get-go as they found themselves trailing 2-0 at the conclusion of the first inning. The Purple and Gold's bats were relatively quiet throughout the game but came alive after the Dolphins added another three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 5-0. Leanna Donahue suffered the loss and slips to 1-4 on the year.

One of Stephanie Abolt's three hits came in the top of the seventh with a one-out double to right center. She was driven in by teammate Alana Vezza's follow up doubled to get her team on the board. Alisha Dovicsak singled to put Vezza on third and a wild pitch gave Hunter their second run. However, it was too little too late as it would be as close as they would get.

The softball team returns to action on Monday, April 17 when they travel north to the Bronx to take on Lehman College in a CUNYAC double header beginning at 12pm.
