New York, NY - Hunter College men's soccer opened up City University of New York Athletic Conference play with a loss to John Jay College on Saturday with a score of 1-0.
The Hawks drop to 0-6-1, while the Bloodhounds improved to 2-3 this season.
The Purple and Gold started the game with two quick shots from
Itamar Pereira and
Mikey Tzanetatos, while the Bloodhounds exchanged shots of their own. Neither team could find a goal, ending the first half with a tied 0-0 score. The Hawks recorded six shots in the first 45 minutes to John Jay's five.
Just three minutes into the second half the Bloodhounds converted with a breakaway goal from Mark Shnadshteyn to get on the board and lead 1-0.
Esteban Correa and
Aristofanis Ioannidis each tallied a shot on goal but the Bloodhounds got the saves in the remaining minutes to get the victory.
The teams each totaled nine shots in the game, while John Jay had six corner kicks to Hunter's one.
Ioannidis led the team with four shots and Hawk goalkeeper
Paul Alain Yovoh Tenfoung recorded five saves.
The team returns to action on September 20 when they face Baruch College at 3:30 p.m.
