Patchogue, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball took its seventh-straight match on Wednesday night in the defeat of St. Joseph's College of Long Island in three sets.
The Hawks won the match with scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-22 as they improved to 8-1 this season.
Hunter immediately dominated the first set by going on a 9-0 run to lead 17-5. Kills from
Marlena Budna and
Julia Connolly contributed to the advantage, while
Sunghee Cho earned a service ace. The Hawks closed it out by capitalizing on a Golden Eagle error to take 1-0 lead in the match.
The Purple and Gold took another early edge to make the score 15-7 in the second set and forcing a St. Joseph's timeout. The Golden Eagles returned to score two points but the Hawks responded with points of their own as
Isabelle Lawrence,
Taylor Haiduk and
Miranda Hogan each scored.
Karina Young recorded the game winning point off a kill as the Hawks took it 25-17.
The third set was the closest, featuring 11 tied scores. The Hawks went up by three points to begin to pull away, but the Golden Eagles took advantage of several Hawk errors to take back the lead, 19-18.
With the score tied at 21, Haiduk took control of the match by registering two kills as the Hawks earned a three-set win.
Haiduk and Connolly led the offense with nine and eight kills, respectively, as Connolly added seven digs.
Haley Trunkett notched a team-high 12 digs and Hogan recorded 21 assists in the victory.
The Hawks return to the court on Saturday, September 23 for a tri-match, hosted by Coast Guard.
