New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball secured a victory over conference foe Baruch College on Wednesday night, defeating the Bearcats with a score of 75-64 at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks continue their successful season by improving to 13-4 and 6-2 in the CUNYAC, while the Bearcats are now 3-5 in the league.
Bench points made a huge difference as Hunter notched 23 in the game. The Hawks also out-rebounded Baruch 55-38 and recorded 19 steals.
Leading at halftime 35-28, the Purple and Gold took further control of the game with a great third quarter. Hunter scored 25 points to Baruch five over a nine-minute span to gain a 23 point lead.
The Bearcats did not go away easily in the fourth quarter, catching back up to trail by just six points with 2:17 to play. Hunter closed it out with free throws to win the game, 75-64.
Ashley Arias led the team with a double-double, posting 15 points and 18 rebounds.
Marlena Budna added 11 rebounds for the Hawks.
Jade Aponte helped with scoring, recording 14 points, while
Maya Thompson and
Janine Conway each tallied 10 points.
The Hawks return to action on Friday, January 19 when they travel to Brooklyn College.
