Cambridge, MA. - Hunter College women's volleyball got two wins and a loss in a tournament at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday, defeating Utica College and King's College in three sets each.
The Hawks improved to 18-6 this season, while maintaining an undefeated mark of 7-0 in conference play.
Hunter 3, Utica 0
The tournament started with a sweep of Utica, featuring scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-16. The Purple and Gold held the Pioneers to a negative hitting percentage, posting 34 kills to Utica's 20.
Emily Wasson led the team with nine kills, while
Marlena Budna registered eight with a .300 hitting percentage.
Haley Trunkett recorded a team-high 15 digs and
Kylie Hurst chipped in 11 of her own to lead the Hunter defense.
Miranda Hogan finished with 18 assists in the victory.
Hunter 3, King's 0
The Hawks began Saturday competition with a win over King's College, handing the Monarchs just their seventh loss of the season.
Hunter finished off King's in commanding fashion, picking up wins of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-12 and a team hitting percentage of .354.
Taylor Haiduk and Wasson led the offensive effort with seven kills each, while
Isabelle Lawrence followed with six. Hogan controlled the team with 26 assists as Haiduk added a team-high 14 digs.
MIT 3, Hunter 0
Hunter ended the day with a loss to #21 nationally ranked MIT, falling with scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-16.
Hurst earned nine kills in the loss, while
Justine Smith tallied a team-high 14 assists. Trunkett posted 14 digs to lead Hunter's defense for the second time in three matches.
Trunkett and Wasson were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend.
The squad returns to action on October 17 when they travel to Stevens for a 7 p.m. match.
