The Hawks got another one 10 minutes later when Leira dribbled the ball past the John Jay defense and found the back of the net, giving Hunter a 2-0 advantage.
The Bloodhounds got on the board at the 35:19 minute mark when they came up with the ball in a struggle with Hunter's goalkeeper, recording a goal to make the score 2-1 at halftime.
Things looked good for the Purple and Gold when they earned another goal early in the second as
Michael Merlo converted on a penalty kick to give the Hawks a two-point edge in the game.
John Jay responded 14 minutes later with another goal, but the Hawks remained in control, leading 3-2, until the Bloodhounds struck again off a penalty kick to tie it up with 20 minutes left.
