New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's soccer got their fifth win of the season on Saturday, defeating Sarah Lawrence College with a score of 2-0 at Randall's Island.
The Hawks ended the regular season with a 5-8-2 record and will begin the CUNYAC men's soccer playoffs on Wednesday. The squad honored their five seniors before the game, taking time to recognize
Matthew Binshtok,
William Benitez,
Chris Perales, Jonathan Bautista and
Michael Merlo.
After finishing the first half with a tied score of 0-0, the Hawks struck first when
Jonah Sampedro scored a goal off a corner kick at the 54:28 minute mark. With 18 minutes to play
Joe Alonzo found the back of the net for the Hawks for his first career goal to confirm the win.
The team finished the game with 16 shots to the Gryphon's eight, while Hunter goalkeeper
Antony Simos tallied three saves.
The Hawks return to the field for the first round of the CUNYAC tournament on Wednesday, October 24.
