Jamaica, N.Y. - Hunter College women's tennis defeated CUNYAC opponent Baruch College on Saturday with a score of 8-1 to continue a five-match winning streak.
The victory was the Hawks' first over Baruch since the 2014 season. They improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play this year.
The squad started the day by sweeping the competition in doubles, led by
Maria Kogarova and
Luisa Sujan taking down their opponents with a close score of 8-6 at the no.1 spot.
Kogarova and Suja followed up the doubles win with two singles wins, earning scores of 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively, at the no. 1 and no. 2 courts.
Yana Rabkova defeated Baruch's Regina Avrutis in a competitive match that went into three sets. Rabkova ended up with the win after getting the 10-8 advantage in the third.
Liliko Chung and
Catherine Ng rounded out the Hunter victories in the match.
The team returns to action on Oct. 10 when they travel to Brooklyn College for a 4 p.m. match.
