Men's Basketball Drops Game to Marywood, 83-58

Hawks Fall in First Game of Weekend Tournament

Newark, N.J. - Hunter College men's basketball evened out to 1-1 this season after falling to Marywood University, 83-58, in the second game of the 2018-19 season.

The Pacers outscored the Hawks in both the first and second half, outshooting the Purple and Gold with a field goal percentage 45.2. The Hawks shot 32.35 in the loss.

Hunter took the early lead, controlling the game by as much as nine points before Marywood began their comeback. The Lancers went on a 24-4 run in the first half to pass the Hawks and make the score 28-17 as Hunter's Gio Gabbidon hit a three-pointer with 6:44 left. Marywood continued to find points to lead 43-31 at halftime.

George Keener and Gabbidon combined for six points at the start of the second to close the gap to just eight points, but the Lancers responded with a basket from behind the arc and a layup. The Hawks responded by outscoring the Lancers 12-2 over the next two minutes to trail by just three points as Keener, Gabbidon, Karon Blackwell and James Blair each scored.

Marywood hit two free throws and did not look back, going up by 10 points before pulling away for good in the final 12 minutes to win, 83-58.

Gabbidon led the team with 15 points, while Blackwell followed with 11 in his second Hunter game.

The team returns to action tomorrow when they take on Elms College at 1 p.m.
