New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball defeated Baruch College and John Jay College on Friday night on the way to capturing a fifth-straight CUNY Athletic Conference Championship.
The Hawks took down #4 seeded Baruch in three sets in the semifinals to advance to the finals later in the evening.
In the championship match the Purple and Gold swept the Bloodhounds for the second-straight season, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Hawks won the three matches with scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20, recording 35 kills to John Jay's 25.
Taylor Haiduk tallied 11 kills in the victory to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team, while
Emily Wasson added seven for another spot on the team.
Marlena Budna registered just one error on 16 kills on the day to earn the status of Most Valuable Player.
Miranda Hogan continued to run the Hunter offense with 25 assists, while
Haley Trunkett led the defense with 15 digs in the championship match.
The Hawks will find out where they are seeded in the NCAA Championships on Monday during the selection show, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
