Women's Hoops Falls to NYU, 76-59

Four Hawks Score In Double-Figures

New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball fell to New York University on Tuesday night with a score of 76-59 to end a three-game winning streak.

The Hawks are now 4-5 this season while the Violets improve to 5-2.

The Violets got the edge over Hunter in shooting to get the victory, recording a 54.5 field goal percentage, in comparison to the Purple and Gold's mark of 36.1. NYU also added 34 points from their bench to take control of the game.

The Hawks maintained the advantage in the beginning of the game, ending the first quarter with a one-point lead and then immediately scoring in the second off a jumper from Ashley Arias to lead 26-23. The Violets found a three-pointer but Theresa Leung responded for the Hawks to hold on to the lead.

A basket from behind the arc from NYU 30 seconds later put them back up and allowed them to stay on top for the rest of the quarter as Hunter fell behind at halftime, 38-28.

The Violets went up by as much as 26 points in the third quarter until the Purple and Gold got back-to-back threes from Janine Conway and Selina Lim to trail by 20 to begin the fourth. The Hawks outscored NYU 15-12 in the last quarter of the game but it was not enough to erase the deficit, falling 76-59.

Arias led the way with 15 points and Leung followed with 14. Jade Aponte added 12 in the loss, while Conway chipped in 11 points.

The team will return to action after the holidays when they travel to Lycoming College for a tournament on December 29.
