Williamsport, PA. - Hunter College women's basketball had four players combine for 57 points, but fell to Lycoming College on Sunday in the consolation game of the Hoops for Hounds tournament with a final score of 77-69.
The Hawks began to fall behind in the first quarter, allowing the Warriors to go up by six points, and then lengthening the lead to as much as 23 in the second. Hunter's
Phoebe Valenton hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to go into halftime trailing Lycoming, 43-23.
Ashley Arias and
Christine Patterson each converted on shots to start the third quarter and then three-straight threes from the Hawks over a 20 second span helped Hunter cut the lead to 14 points. With four minutes left in the quarter, the Purple and Gold went on a 10-0 run, finding points from
Janine Conway,
Edina Music,
Jade Aponte and
Theresa Leung to trail by just eight. The Hawks finished the third quarter by outscoring the Warriors 39-9.
Despite the consistent scoring from the Hawks, they still trailed at the beginning of the fourth quarter. A three from Leung with one minute to play cut the deficit to just six points, but the Warriors held onto the win, 77-69.
Conway led the Hawks with 18 points, while Leung finished with 15 and Aponte added 13. Arias ended the loss just one rebound shy of a double-double, recording 11 points and nine boards.
The team will return to action on January 3 when they take on Brooklyn College at 5 p.m.
