New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball celebrated Senior Day for lone senior
Ashley Yu on Saturday, winning a CUNYAC match up against CCNY with a score of 94-82 at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Hawks improved to 17-7 and 10-5 in the conference to sit at third place.
Janine Conway led the Hawks with a career-high 29 points, shooting 10-15 from the floor and making four three-pointers. The Purple and Gold forced 26 Beaver turnovers and contributed 59 bench points to get the victory.
CCNYÂ had the lead for the majority of the first quarter until Conway took over, scoring nine points in the last three minutes to give the Hawks a four-point lead going into the second. Hunter kept control in the second quarter, going up by as much as 14 points at one point and holding on to the advantage to make the score 46-37 at the half.
The Beavers hit several threes to begin the third quarter, tying the score at 49 and then taking a one-point lead with 3:10 on the clock.
Jade Aponte and
Theresa Leung responded by hitting back-to-back three pointers for the Hawks to take back the lead and help Hunter make the score 67-59 by the end of the quarter.
The Beavers cut Hunter's lead to just two points with 7:28 to play but the Purple and Gold stayed in control for the rest of the game to eventually take it, 94-82.
Conway led with 29 points, while Aponte recorded 19 and Leung added 15.
Ashley Arias and
Christine Patterson were a force on the boards, bringing down 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively.
The team returns to action for their last regular season game on Tuesday, February 13 when they travel to Lehman College.
