Bronx, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball ended the 2017-18 regular season with a 10-6 CUNYAC record after falling to Lehman College on Tuesday night, 85-81.
The Hawks will compete for the CUNYAC championship this weekend with a 17-8 overall record, finishing fourth in the conference standings.
The first half featured 16 lead changes as both teams fought to maintain advantage of the score.
Theresa Leung hit a three-pointer in the second quarter to tie the score 43-43, but the Lightning managed to pull ahead, going into halftime with a 49-45 lead over the Purple and Gold.
The third quarter remained close as
Jade Aponte opened it up with a basket from behind the arc to help Hunter trail by just one point. The Hawks went on a small run with two minutes left in the quarter, but Lehman led 65-61 to go into the fourth.
The Hawks did their best to catch up in the final ten minutes as
Ashley Arias hit two free throws to make the score 77-75 with 3:13 on the clock. The Lightning continued to find baskets, converting on free throws in the final minutes to take the game, 85-81.
Aponte led the Purple and Gold with 25 points, recording six three-pointers in the loss. She was followed by
Janine Conway's 16 points and a double-double from Arias with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Marlena Budna chipped in 13 points and seven boards.
