Franks Scores 1000th Point in Senior Day Win Over CCNY

The Hawks Also Celebrated Alumni Day on Saturday

New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball picked up its eighth conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon, defeating CCNY with a score of 84-76 at the Hunter Sportsplex.

The Hawks honored seniors Matt Franks, Amer Lukac, Blendi Ibraj and Mamadou Sakho before the game, while Franks recorded his 1000th career point in the first half.

The day also included an alumni celebration as the 1997-98 Hunter men's basketball team returned to be honored for their extraordinary season 10 years ago. The 97-98 squad recorded the best record in Hunter history, won a CUNYAC championship and made it to the Elite Eight round of the NCAA tournament.

The game started with a three-pointer from Gio Gabbidon in the opening minute, which was quickly equalized by the Beavers as the teams took turns taking the lead. Up by one point with 11:50 on the clock, Hunter took control by outscoring the Beavers 23-10 over the next five minutes to take a 14 point lead. CCNY began to come back, but the Hawks held onto the edge to make the score 41-35 at the half.

Things looked good for the Purple and Gold when they led by as much as 12 points in the second half, but CCNY slowly chipped away at the score, cutting Hunter's lead to just four points with five minutes to play.

George Keener, Danny Fusco, Franks and Ibraj all scored in the remaining minutes to keep Hunter's advantage and get the win, 84-76.

The Hawks had an impressive shooting day, recording a 59.6 field goal percentage for the best mark Hunter has posted since the 2013-14 season. Franks led the team with 33 points, recording 13 field goals, while Lukac followed with 23.

The team returns to action on Tuesday, February 13 when they travel to Lehman College for their last regular season game of the season.
