Danbury, Conn. - Hunter College women's basketball is set to host William Paterson University on Wednesday, February 28 in the first round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship.
The Hawks earned a no. 2 seed in the tournament and will take on no. 3 seed William Paterson at the Hunter Sportsplex at 6 p.m. Hunter recently fell in the semifinals of the CUNYAC championship to Brooklyn College and go into ECAC's with a, 18-9 record. The Pioneers own a 14-12 overall record and are 11-7 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, falling in the first round of their league tournament to Rowan University.
The Purple and Gold's last appearance in the ECAC tournament was during the 2013-14 season, where they got a win in the first round before getting eliminated in the semifinals.
Jade Aponte has led the Hawks in scoring this season, averaging 16.4 points per game, while
Janine Conway has added an average of 11.7 off the bench.
Ashley Arias and
Maya Thompson have led the effort on the boards, recording 7.6 and 6.5 rebounds per game, respectively.
The Pioneers are paced by junior guard Julie Rovito, who is averaging 14.3 points per game this season.
The winner of Wednesday's contest will advance to the ECACÂ quarterfinals on Friday, March 2, where they will face no. 1 seed Washington and Jefferson.
