Mens Volleyball Goes 2-0 at St. Joseph's Long Island

Hawks Improve to 13-6

Patchogue, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball got two wins on Thursday afternoon, defeating St. Joseph's College (Long Island) before taking down New Jersey City University.

With the victories the Hawks improved to 13-6 this season, while remaining undefeated in CUNYAC play.

Hunter 3, St. Joseph's - L.I. 1
The Hawks started the day with a win over the Golden Eagles in four sets with scores of 25-16, 25-24, 26-28 and 29-27.

The Purple and Gold won the first two before falling in a close third set. They finished off the Golden Eagles in the fourth as Qendrim Shala posted two-straight kills to win the match.

The Hawks hit .316, while holding SJC to a hitting percentage of .171. Shala led the team with a career-high 20 kills, followed by Matthew Zukowski's 15. Benjamin Cassidy added 13 in the win.

Joe Muir and Blake Hogan led the Hunter defense, recording 24 and 21 digs, respectively. Alec Helford led the team with 56 assists.

Hunter 3, New Jersey City 1
The team followed up the first win by defeating New Jersey City, featuring scores of 25-18, 26-28, 25-15 and 25-17.

Michael Jazgarski led the offense with 14 kills as Daniel Kim followed with 12. Muir continued to be a force defensively, registering 17 digs.

Helford paced the Hawks with 43 assists in the victory.

The team returns to action on March 20 when they travel to New York University for a 7 p.m. match.
