Men's Volleyball Drops Match in Four Sets to NYU

Benjamin Cassidy Leads the Hawks With 12 Kills

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball fell to #10 ranked New York University on Tuesday night in four sets (26-24, 16-25, 14-25 and 16-25) at the Brooklyn Athletic Facility.

The Hawks dropped to 13-7 this season while the Violets are now 11-7.

Hunter started the first set in the lead before the Violets went on a run to pull ahead 14-12. From there the Hawks posted three-straight kills, with two from Benjamin Cassidy, to take a one-point advantage. Errors from NYU and three-straight kills from Hunter's Blake Hogan propelled the Purple and Gold to a 21-17 lead, but the Violets scored six-straight points to make the score 24-22.

The Hawks regained composure to score the last four points of the set as Cassidy recorded a kill to help Hunter win the first, 26-24.

The Purple and Gold fell behind early in the second and were unable to catch up, dropping the second set, 25-16, to tie the match 1-1. They followed that up by falling in the third (25-14) and the fourth (25-16), as NYU defeated the Hawks in four sets.

Cassidy led the team with 12 kills, while adding five blocks, and Hogan followed with nine kills of his own. Hogan and Joe Muir led the Hunter defense with seven digs each as Alec Helford registered 36 assists.

The team returns to action on Thursday when they host Vassar at 4 p.m. and Medgar Evers at 6 p.m.
