New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball fell to #12 ranked Vassar College on Thursday, but finished the day with a CUNYAC win over Medgar Evers in three sets.
The Hawks are now 14-8 this season and improved to 6-0 in CUNYAC play.
Vassar 3, Hunter 1
The Purple and Gold started the day with a four set loss to the Brewers, taking the first set with a score of 25-22, before dropping the next three with scores of 18-25, 23-25 and 15-25.
The Hawks pulled ahead early 6-3 off two-straight service aces from
Matthew Zukowski. They maintained the lead and made the score 22-16 with help from
Qendrim Shala and
Daniel Kim's kills. The Brewers stay competitive to trail by just two points, but Hunter's
Daniel Dobrogowski finished it off with a kill to give the Hawks the 25-22 win.
Vassar came back in the next set and won the next three to take the match, 3-1.
Benjamin Cassidy led the team in the match with eight kills and just one error for a team-high .538 hitting percentage.
Alec Helford added six digs and 32 assists in the Hawks' loss.
Hunter 3, Medgar Evers 0
Hunter finished the day with a sweep over the Cougars with scores of 25-6, 25-15 and 25-15.
Michael Jazgarski led the squad with seven kills, while
Sebastian Vargas posted six in the victory. Jazgarski added a team-leading 11 digs as
Daniel Valdez paced the offense with 11 assists.
The team returns to action on Saturday, March 24 when they host a tri-match, starting at 10 a.m.
