New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's volleyball fell to #6 ranked Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon, dropping three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-19.
The Hawks dropped to 9-6 overall this season with the loss, while Dominican improved to 14-4.
The Stars jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first set, recording seven kills. The Purple and Gold responded by finding kills from
Qendrim Shala,
Benjamin Cassidy and
Blake Hogan to stay in the game, but eventually fell, 25-16.
The second set was much closer as Hunter kept Dominican quiet with kills from Hogan, Shala, Cassidy,
Cyrus De Guzman and
Matthew Zukowski. With the Hawks trailing by just three points (15-12), the Stars went on a 6-2 run to lead 21-13. Hunter capitalized on several Dominican errors but still dropped the set, 25-19.
The Hawks started the third by going on a 5-1 run, sparked by points from Cassidy and
Daniel Dobrogowski. Dominican began to pull ahead with the score 17-15, outscoring the Hawks 8-4 to take the third 25-19 and win the match.
The Purple and Gold hit .125 on the match, while the Stars recorded a .446 hitting percentage. Hogan led the team with eight kills, followed by Shala and
Michael Jazgarski's five kills each. Hogan also led the defensive effort with eight digs, while
Alec Helford tallied 18 assists.
Hunter returns to action on Thursday, March 8 when they host Ramapo College at 6 p.m.
