New York, NY – The softball team swept the twinbill against the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent College earlier this afternoon at Randall's Island. A close 5-2 game one was followed up by a dominant 19-5 victory in the second game, giving the Hawks (8-10, 4-0 CUNYAC) a four game win streak.
Game One Recap
Caroline Bibula registered her second win of the season after giving up two runs on nine hits during the complete game performance. She fanned five in the process and walked just one batter with one of the two runs scored being earned.
Offensively, the Hawks had six different players with a hit while
Brittney Salvador and
Alana Vezza were credited with two RBIs a piece.
In the bottom of the first, the Hawks had the bases juiced with just one out. An
Alisha Dovicsak walk scored
Jamie Durso for the first run of the game. Following that was a two-RBI double off the bat of
Alana Vezza to give her team the early 3-0 lead.
The Dolphins put runners in scoring position in both the second and third innings but were unable to capitalize until the fifth. A leadoff single by Erin Patterson sparked a two-run inning which was stopped by Bibula striking out Taylor Milata to get out of the jam.
Hunter added two insurance runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of a two-run homer by Dovisak. The Hawks made quick work of the Dolphins in the top of the seventh to secure the 5-2 victory.
Game Two Recap
Nicole Guzzone picked up her third victory of the season after tossing four innings, allowing one run, four hits and striking out one. 12 Hawks registered at least one hit with seven having multiple hit outings. McCoy went an impressive 4-5 with two runs scored and two RBI while Dovicsak went 2-3 with a grand slam and five RBI. Vezza also smacked a round tripper and added two RBI in the victory.
