New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball dropped two matches on Saturday after hosting Stockton University and Vassar College in a tri-match at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The losses were the Hawks' first of the season, making their record 7-2 overall this season.
Stockton 3, Hunter 1
In Hunter's first match of the day they fell to the Ospreys in four sets, taking the first 25-21 before dropping the next three 25-19, 25-16 and 25-21.
Kylie Hurst led the offense with 16 kills, chipping in 12 digs in the loss. Haiduk added 15 kills and 14 digs, while
Marlena Budna had 11 kills and a team-high five blocks.
Miranda Hogan registered 28 assists and 14 digs, while
Haley Trunkett led the defense with 20 digs.
Vassar 3, Hunter 2
The Purple and Gold's second match was close in all aspects as the Hawks won the first two sets 25-19, 25-23, but could not manage to close out the win, dropping the next three, 25-23, 25-18 and 15-13.
In the third set the Hawks came back from a five-point deficit to tie the score at 22. The Brewers ended up with the final two points off Hunter errors to send the match into a fourth set.
After Vassar won the fourth, the Hawks were forced to attempt to get the win in the fifth, falling behind 5-2 but then pulling ahead 6-5 off a series that featured kills from
Kendra Moore and Hurst, a service ace from Trunkett and a block from Hurst and Budna.
Vassar responded with four-straight points of their own until a Budna kill silenced the run. With the Purple and Gold leading 13-12, the Brewers managed the next three points to take the set 15-13 and win the match 3-2.
Miranda Hogan paced the Hunter offense that featured four players with double-digit kills, recording 59 assists.Â
Haiduk led the team with 22 kills and a .309 hitting percentage, while
Emily Wasson added 14.
Hurst tallied 13 kills in the loss as Budna recorded 11 with a team-high hitting percentage of .409.
Defense was a team effort with Trunkett leading with 27 digs, Hogan and Haiduk chipping in 21 each and Hurst tallying 16 of her own. Budna and Moore each notched five blocks in the match.
The team looks to bounce back on September 18 when they travel to Farmingdale State for a 6 p.m. match.
