Farmingdale, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball defeated Farmingdale State College on Tuesday evening, taking down the Rams in three sets with scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-15.
The Hawks improved to 8-2 overall this season, while the Rams fell to 3-11.
The Purple and Gold began the first set in control, going on a seven-point run that featured kills from
Kylie Hurst,
Marlena Budna and
Kendra Moore to take a 13-4 advantage. Leading 19-11, the Hawks closed it out by outscoring FSC 6-4 in the remaining points to win the first set.
The second set was more competitive as Hunter struggled to hold onto a lead. It wasn't until the score was tied at 17 that the Hawks finished them off, scoring eight points to the Rams' one to take the second, 25-18.
Down early in the third set, the Purple and Gold came back from an 8-4 deficit, finding kills from
Curran Murray and
Kayshawna Richardson to take a one-point lead. The Rams answered back, but Hunter went on a 6-0 run for a commanding 19-11 edge.
Mariam Ouattara got the game-winning kill for the Hawks, as the team closed out the 25-15 victory to sweep the match.
Hunter recorded a team hitting percentage of .293, holding the Rams to a mark of .133. Ten players earned at least one kill in the win, with
Taylor Haiduk recording 10 and
Isabelle Lawrence registering eight.
Justine Smith and
Miranda Hogan split time at the setter position, earning 19 and 13 assists, respectively.
Haiduk added a team-high 15 digs, while
Haley Trunkett posted 11.
The Hawks return to the court on Thursday, September 20 when they host Baruch College at 6 p.m.
