New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's volleyball improved to 3-0 this season with a victory over Manhattanville College in three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-20 and 25-22.
The Hawks have won their third-straight match, while the Valiants dropped their first of the season with a current record of 3-1.
The opening set began with a few lead changes before the Hawks established an 8-6 advantage off kills from
Miranda Hogan and
Marlena Budna. From there Budna took control, adding another kill and one service ace before
Isabelle Lawrence chipped in two kills of her own to give Hunter the 13-8 edge. The Hawks went on a 5-0 run to make the score 24-15 as Lawrence earned the set-deciding point with a kill to give Hunter the 25-17 first-set win.
The Valiants maintained a lead for the first part of the second set until a kill from Hunter's
Emily Wasson sparked a four-point run for the Hawks to gain a 16-13 dominance. Manhattanville was unable to catch up as
Taylor Haiduk recorded game-point for the Hawks, allowing them a 25-20 victory to lead the match 2-0.
Hunter trailed for most of the third set, finally tallying four-straight points with kills from Budna, Haiduk and
Mariam Ouattara to lead 16-15. The Valiants tied it up at 19 before taking another lead 21-20. Several errors plagued the Valiants, giving the Hawks the momentum as Kyle Hurst, Budna and Haiduk notched the last kills of the match to lead the Purple and Gold to a 25-22 third-set victory.
The Hawks earned the advantage on offense, recording a .276 hitting percentage in the win.
Haiduk paced the Hawks with a match-high 14 kills and nine digs. Middle blockers Lawrence and Budna each finished with 10 kills and just one error as Lawrence led the team with a .600 hitting percentage.Â
Hogan dished out 37 assists, while
Haley Trunkett led the Hunter defense with 15 digs in the victory. Hurst finished with a solid performance of seven kills and 10 digs for the team.Â
The squad returns to action on Saturday, September 8 when they take on CUNYACÂ opponents John Jay and Brooklyn College.
