The Purple and Gold kicked off the day with a victory over the Bloodhounds, getting wins with scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23.

Hunter struggled to maintain a solid lead in the first set until they posted four-straight points, featuring two service aces from Haley Trunkett, to take a 16-10 lead. Kills from five Hunter players in the remaining points gave the Hawks the spark they needed to get a 25-18 win.

John Jay went on several runs in the beginning of the second, causing the Purple and Gold to play catch up. It wasn't until the Hawks forced several Bloodhound errors that they were able to pull ahead for good and win the second, 25-19.

The Hawks controlled the first part of the third until they recorded five-straight errors to allow John Jay to take a 14-11 edge. The team managed to climb back, getting a kill from Isabelle Lawrence and a service ace from Haiduk to tie the score. Things looked good for Hunter when they went on a 5-0 run for a 20-16 lead, but the Bloodhounds would not go away, staying within one point.
