Bronx, N.Y. - Hunter College women's tennis defeated Lehman College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon to notch its first win of the 2018 season.
The Hawks improved to 1-1 this season and got their first CUNYAC win of the year, while the Lightning dropped to 0-2.
Hunter won two of the three matches in doubles competition to kick off the day as the duo of
Maria Kogarova and
Luisa Sujan took down their opponents at the no. 1 court with a score of 8-4. The no. 2 spot of
Monika Zaboklicki and
Elaine Zhang also finished off their opponents to give the Hawks the lead going into singles.
Sujan earned a win for the Purple and Gold at the no. 2 court, handedly defeating her Lightning opponent with scores of 6-0, 6-0. Zaboklicki also got a victory at the no. 3 spot, while Hunter's
Tenzin Zompa solidified the team's advantage with an exciting win at the no. 6 court. Zompa won her first set 6-3, before falling in the second set for a tied score. In the third Zompa managed a 6-0 bout to get the victory.
The squad returns to the tennis court on September 13 when they travel to John Jay College.
