New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's basketball was stopped by Medgar Evers College on Wednesday with a score of 78-73 at the Hunter Sportsplex.
Despite a late comeback, the Hawks (4-12, 2-7 CUNYAC) dropped the game in just the last few minutes to the Cougars (6-10, 5-3 CUNYAC).
Hunter fell behind by as much as 17 points in the first half after going on a 18-2 run over a three-minute span. The Hawks responded by then outscoring the Cougars 14-4 to cut the lead to eight points with 10:50 on the clock. MEC finished off the half by lengthening their advantage once again and making the score 45-31 at halftime.

Nolan Bruesehoff each contributed to Hunter's first 11 points of the second half to help the Hawks trail by seven.
Gio Gabbidon then converted on a three-point play to make the score 51-45 and keep the Purple and Gold in the game with 14 minutes to play.
The two teams exchanged points until the 2:49 minute mark when four-straight points from Gabbidon started a Hunter run. Keener hit a lay up to cut the MEC lead to six points and then Bruesehoff sank a three to make the Hawks trail by just three points with 30 seconds left. The Cougars managed to hold on to the game by hitting free throws, getting the win, 78-73.
Keener finished the game with his fourth double-double of the season, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds. Gabbidon recorded 17 points, Fusco tallied 15 and Bruesehoff scored 10.
The team returns to the court on Friday, January 18 when they travel to York College for a 7:30 p.m. game.
