New York, N.Y. - Hunter College women's basketball rolled to its fifth-straight victory on Wednesday evening, giving Medgar Evers College an 80-41 loss.
The Hawks (9-8, 7-1 CUNYAC) are ranked first in the conference standings with the win over the Cougars (0-17, 0-8 CUNYAC).
Both teams kept it interesting in the first quarter as the Hawks didn't take the lead until the 5:09 minute mark. From there they never looked back, finishing up the first with a 23-14 advantage.
Jade Aponte opened up the second quarter with a three-pointer, followed by four-straight points from
Christine Patterson for the Hawks.
Aponte hit another three and a free throw less than a minute later to give the Purple and Gold a 20-point lead. The Hawks outscored the Cougars 14-4 in the last five minutes of the quarter to lead 48-23 at the half.
The third quarter featured a 19-9 run by the Hawks, which they continued into the fourth. Hunter wrapped up the game in the last 10 minutes, winning with a score of 80-41.
Aponte finished with a team-high 20 points followed by a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds from
Nicole Ballin. Patterson and
Edina Music each added 11 points in the victory.
The team returns to the court on Friday, January 18 when they travel to York College for a 5:30 p.m. game.
