George Keener led Hunter College men's basketball in a loss to CUNYAC opponent Brooklyn College on Thursday night, dropping the game with a score of 67-56.
The Hawks are now 3-8 and 1-3 in conference play this season, while the Bulldogs improved to 7-4 and 2-0.
Hunter struggled to stop the Bulldogs from scoring in the paint, allowing 40 points near the basket. They trailed by three points at halftime to put them in a good position starting the second. They started strong, finding a layup from
Gio Gabbidon to tie it up and then a three-pointer from Keener to take a one-point lead, 33-32.
Melvin Collins continued the Hunter run with two free throws, while Keener took matters into his own hands, scoring the next eight points for the Hawks as they led, 43-39, with 12:06 on the clock. The Bulldogs tied the score with eight minutes to play and then pulled away, eventually getting the 67-56 victory.
Keener finished with 21 points, three steals, three assists and a team-high seven rebounds. Collins followed with 15 points and Gabbidon added 11.
The team returns to the court on Monday, January 5 when they face Lehman College at 3 p.m.
