Flushing, N.Y. - Hunter College women's tennis defeated William Paterson University on Wednesday night, taking down the Pioneers in a close match with a score of 5-4.
The Hawks earned their ninth win of the season, while the Pioneers are now 0-9.
Hunter took two of the three doubles matches, led by the efforts of
Zaara Afida and
Monika Zaboklicki, who got a win at the #1 court, 8-6.
Malgorzata Kuczera and
Maryna Bohdanovska found a commanding victory at the #2 spot, 8-1, to put the Hawks in the lead going into singles.
The Purple and Gold took the top three matches of singles competition as Afida finished off her opponent at #1, 6-1, 6-1. She was followed by Kuczera in the #2 spot, who won in a tiebreaker, and Bohdanovska, who found a win at #3.
The Hawks managed to ink out the team win by one point, 5-4.
The squad returns to action on October 18 when they host St. Joseph's College of Long Island at 3 p.m.
