New York, NY – The men's soccer team toppled CUNYAC foe Medgar Evers by a score of 5-0 on Saturday during Senior Day. The Hawks dominated on both sides of the field as they secured sixth win of the season to boost their record to 6-7-1, 5-1 CUNYAC while the Cougars slip to 1-12, 0-6 CUNYAC.
Hunter outshot their opponents, 20-5 and held a slight edge in corner kicks, 4-3. In the 21
st minute, senior Jesus Patino Munoz was fouled inside the box and connected on a penalty kick to put the Hawks up 1-0. Less than eight minutes later,
Matthew Maja, on an assist by
Blaise Enama, found the back of the net to set the score at 2-0. Just seconds before the end of the first half, Enama beat keeper Stanley Saint Eloi with Munoz on the assist to head into the half up 3-0.
At the 57 minute mark, the Hawks struck again, this time off the foot of
Lavjit Singh on a pass from Munoz. Just before the final whistle blew,
Andrew Pinto put the icing on the cake with an unassisted goal.
Noah Dougherty and
Antony Simos evenly split the action and combined for three saves and a combined shutout.
The men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, October 23 when they travel to Jamaica, NY to take on the York Cardinals in the final match of the regular season.
