Brooklyn, NY - The men's soccer team capped the regular season with a conference win over the Cardinals of York College with a 2-1 victory earlier this afternoon. Thanks to the heroics of
Blaise Enama, Hunter tied it late in the game and then notched the game winner in the 99th minute and secured the #2 seed in the CUNYAC Tournament.
Blaise Enama scored both of the Hawk's goals and each counted in a big way. A scoreless first half between the two teams amounted to a furious finish in the second after York's Shemar Green broke the silence with a score to put the Cardinals on top 1-0 with less than 22 minutes remaining in regulation. However, In the 72nd minute, It was Enama that allowed the Hawks (7-7-1, 6-1 CUNYAC) to tie the game after beating York keeper, Jasper McLeod, on an assist from
Lavjit Singh.
Despite out-shooting York 24-11 and holding a 7-2 corner kick advantage through regulation, the game remained knotted at 1-1 through 90 minutes. In overtime, Jesus Patino Munoz launched two shots on net while
Andrew Pinto put one shot on the mark, but all three attempts were met with a McLeod save. However, in the 99th minute, Enama, once again, came through for the Purple and Gold and scored after picking up the rebound from Pinto's shot and beat the keeper for the game winner.Â
Hunter keeper,
Noah Dougherty made two saves and earned another win as the Hawks cap the regular season and final CUNYAC matchup with a victory. Although the Purple and Gold tie with Lehman for the best record in the CUNYAC (6-1) they lose the head-to-head and secure the #2 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament.
