Queens, NY – The top seeded women's tennis team took care of business against the #4 Lightning of Lehman College earlier this evening by a score of 5-1. With the win, Hunter (11-1, 6-0) will advance to the CUNYAC Championship round for the second consecutive season.
Hunter snagged two points in doubles action with
Malgorzata Kuczera and
Maryna Bohdanovska finishing first at #2 doubles with a dominating score of 8-1. The duo of
Monika Zaboklicki and
Elaine Zhang grabbed the final point at #3 doubles after a convincing 8-2 victory over their opponents.
While the Alley Pond Tennis Center has just three courts, that's all it took for the Hawks to seal the deal in the match. Kuczera, playing at #2 singles outplayed opponent Diwa Rana, 6-1, 6-3 for Hunter's third point. At #4 singles Bohdanovska won with a similar score, 6-0, 6-2 to put Hunter just one point away from the victory. Closing out the match was
Liliko Chung at #3 singles. She blanked her opponent, 6-0 in the first but made Chung work for the win and ultimately came out on top 7-6 after the 10-8 tiebreaker.
The top seeded Hawks will face #2 Baruch for the CUNYAC Championship on Friday, October 25 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Queens. First serve is slated for a 3pm start.
