New Rochelle, NY - The men's soccer team advanced to the CUNYAC finals with a win over the Bearcats of Baruch College with a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks return to the finals for the first time since 2016.
The first half of action proved to be a competitive affair.
Sammy Ahmed opened the scoring for the Hawks in the 25
th minute on a chip shot assisted by
Blaise Enama. The first half continued to be tight as both finished the half with eight shots.
The second half was filled with cards as both teams combined for 5 yellow cards. A critical turning moment occurred in the 57
th minute as Baruch received a red card leaving them a man down for the rest of the match. Hunter was able to take advantage in the 73
rd minute as
Blaise Enama headed a goal off a corner kick from
Jesus Patino Muniz. Hunter was able to withstand a late rally attempt by Baruch defending two corner kicks and two saves by Hunter keeper
Noah Dougherty.
Dougherty, tied his season high with seven saves and earned another win to improve his record to 4-3 on the season.
Hunter will return to the pitch for the CUNYAC finals this Saturday November 9
th at 4:30 p.m. hosted by Brooklyn College. The Hawks will take on the John Jay Bloodhounds (6-10-1, 3-4 CUNYAC) in the finals after defeating them 1-0 earlier in the season.
