New York, N.Y. - After coming off a victory from the night before, Hunter College women's volleyball fell in three sets to New York University on Wednesday evening, 25-15, 25-19 and 25-23.
The Hawks are now 7-10 overall this season, while the Violets improved to 14-4.
After dropping the first two sets, the Hawks took an early lead in the third, going on a 5-0 run and finding kills from
Kylie Hurst and
Isabelle Lawrence to lead 9-6.
The Violets didn't go away easy, but the Purple and Gold maintained control when Hurst recorded three kills in four points to give the Hawks a two-point advantage. NYU tied it up seven times towards the end of the set and then finally got a 24-22 lead.
Kendra Moore posted a kill to keep the Hawks in it, but the Violets finished it off with a kill of their own to take the third 25-23 and win the match.
Hurst tallied a team-high 11 kills and nine digs in the loss, while Moore added nine kills. Lawrence and
Mariam Ouattara followed with eight kills apiece to lead the offense.
Justine Smith found 39 assists in the match, as
Sunghee Cho registered 18 digs.
The team returns to action on October 8 when they travel to John Jay for an 11 a.m. match.
