New York, N.Y. - Hunter College men's soccer gave Baruch College its first conference loss of the season on Wednesday when they took down the Bearcats with a score of 4-3 in a consistent downpour at Randall's Island.
The Hawks improved to 2-1 in CUNYAC play, while Baruch dropped to 4-1.
Jesus Patino Muniz and
Sammy Ahmed were the highlights of the day for the Hawks, scoring two goals apiece in the victory.Â
Muniz struck first just 30 seconds into the game off a free kick. Ahmed gathered the second goal just 20 minutes later, finding an assist from
Blaise Enama.
The Bearcats got on the board just before halftime as the Purple and Gold led 2-1 during the break.
Ahmed, a freshman, scored again about 15 minutes into the second half to allow Hunter a 3-1 advantage. Muniz then found the back of the net at the 67:33 minute mark to extend the Hawks lead to 4-1.Â
Baruch did not go away easily, scoring two goals in the remaining 20 minutes, but it was not enough to catch back up to the Hawks, who took the game, 4-3.
Muniz led the team with five shots, followed by
Mikael Young-Malka's four in the win. Hunter goalkeeper
Noah Dougherty posted three saves in the game.
The team returns to the field on Saturday when they host CCNY at 1:30 p.m.
